Located on the New River in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the yard is located five miles from Port Everglades at a site that provides protection from the tropical storms that sometime threaten the area. A mere five minutes from Fort Lauderdale International Airport, Bradford Marine is also located in the very heart of Fort Lauderdale’s marine service and provisioning infrastructure. However, it is the skill and professionalism of the Bradford team that makes the yard the first choice for so many boat owners and captains. Founded in 1967, Bradford made the first of many farsighted choices when it opted to install the 300- ton Synchrolift that still operates today. At the time, the machinery was considered to be far larger than business demanded. But, starting with the 130-foot Fontainebleau II in 1967, the yard has since used the lift to haul hundreds of the world’s finest yachts up to 150 feet in length. Using the side carriage transfer system, Bradford can provide over 1,000 linear feet of dry dock space. In addition to its lifting capacity, the yard also has one of the world’s largest in-water undercover facilities. The covered slips can handle vessels up to 180 feet LOA and 45 feet in height. The total of 11,000 linear feet of slips and service bays means that whatever the weather’s doing, Bradford can always deliver its repairs on time, as well as provide long-term covered storage. Bradford’s far-sighted management has always invested in the best equipment. The yard work force is made up of the industry’s finest craftsmen and technicians. They work with state-of-the-art tools to provide the very best in service. The machine shop, for example, is equipped to make propeller shafts and possesses the latest in optical alignment gear to make sure they run true. As a complement to the machine shop, there is a propeller shop with a dynamic balancer to make sure the props are correct as well. The carpentry shop is staffed by an experienced team of experts in joinery, deck laying and cabinetry. Bradford is also famous for providing the best in paint jobs. Other skilled workers are found in air-conditioning, refrigeration and hydraulic departments. Bradford’s team of bottom specialists will check for damage and maintenance needs as soon as a yacht is hauled and make the recommendations for repairs on the spot. Having all the different trades and equipment on site provides one-stop expertise, which translates into less expensive refits and repairs and the quickest turnaround time. In the mid-1990s, Bradford’s management realized it would have to upgrade its facilities to accommodate the luxury yacht industry’s growing mega yacht fleet. In order to maintain its reputation as the premier yacht refit and repair company, Bradford took the bold step of opening a new satellite facility in the Bahamas. The land for the new Bradford facility in Freeport, Grand Bahamas was acquired in 1997 and Bradford Marine Bahamas was born. Employing over 90 tradesmen, the deep water yard offers all the services that can be found in Fort Lauderdale and uses a 1,200-ton floating dry dock to haul vessels up to 230 feet. For smaller projects, the yard uses a 150-ton Travel Lift. The company also has developed the 50-acre property to have over 2500 feet of dock space in a well protected, deep water canal in Freeport Harbor, as well on the hard storage.
